Yesterday, when my friend informed me that Raf Simons had just debuted his first haute couture collection, and at Dior, well, I was stunned! First of all, I had no idea that Simons had replaced Galliano, and second, the haute couture collections are out!? Ouuu. Well, imagining him at Dior where successors such as Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan, and John Galliano (to name a few) have designed very elegant and feminine looks for the house and share different design aesthetics and styles compared to Simons was just frustrating to imagine, so I had to check it out for myself. Honestly, I didn't think Simons could compete with what Galliano previously brought to the House of Dior, the theatrics, the drama, the color and all. But, he did, and I take back every doubt I had in my mind. I can't begin to analyze, critique, or rave about each piece because I feel inadequate in my history of Dior's fashions to give out a full blown review, but I do love this collection a lot, and will link a proper, NY Times review for you readers. The pictures above are just SOME of the 54 outfits I adore, that Simons unveiled to the stunned fashion leaders in Paris. In rooms with walls decked with flowers. A homage to Christian Dior's love of blossoms.
